Recent and Ongoing Research

Leticia J. Marteleto (Ph.D., Sociology) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and a Faculty Research Associate of the Population Research Center at The University of Texas at Austin. She is also a Research Affiliate of the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS) at the same university. Her current research explores the influence of social and demographic contexts on educational inequality in Brazil and in South Africa. A forthcoming paper focuses on the disadvantages in education associated with race throughout the last three decades in Brazil. Marteleto’s recent research has appeared in Population and Development Review and Studies in Family Planning. Marteleto was formerly Assistant Professor in the School of Education at the University of Michigan and a Research Associate at the Population Studies Center and Institute for Social Research at the same institution. Prior to that, she taught at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil, where she researched issues related to social demography and education. Marteleto has provided consultancy to several organizations, including the United Nations and the Brazilian Ministries of Education and Social Development.
